The following is a summary of the faith tenets that direct, guide, support, and sustain the mission, vision, and work of UFCC. We believe it is impossible to love God, whom we've never seen, and hate our brothers and sisters whom we see every day. 1 John 4:20:
- : We believe God is neither male nor female but is a Spirit and as a Spirit, God has no gender. God is everywhere present and is greater than any religion, denomination, or school of thought. God's love is universal and in order to practice Love, we must be involved in the affairs of society, fighting for social justice and providing for all according to their individual needs.
- : We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. We also believe in and abide by the teachings of Jesus but we do not dismiss other faiths and beliefs as wrong or second to our way of believing.
- : We believe in the liberating power of the gifts that come through God's Holy Spirit.
- : We believe that God created humanity, together as male and female and in the image of God. Through Christ, humanity received the capacity for self-understanding, self-definition, self-determination, creativity, and community. We believe it is impossible to love each other without a sense of mutual (equal) worth and respect. As creations of God, our belief system must be supportive of HEALTHY SELF ACCEPTANCE; support SPIRITUAL GROWTH; and ENCOURAGE PHYSICAL, PSYCHIC and MENTAL HEALTH.
- : We believe that salvation is ours by grace, and through faith, in the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ. Through His death and resurrection we are pardoned of sin, given a new nature, made one with God, set apart by God and for God, and guaranteed life eternal. The full benefit of this great gift comes to the believer through the acceptance of Jesus as Lord and the embrace of the gifts that come through the Spirit. We further believe that evidence of salvation is repentance, faith, and newness of life with a renewed relationship with God.
- - We believe that the Lord's Supper represents the price that was paid for salvation, being the battered body and shed blood of Jesus Christ. It is observed in obedience to, and in the presence of, the Risen Lord.
- : We believe that the Bible serves as the center of our Christian union, and is the standard by which all matters of conduct, creeds, practices, and opinions should be measured. However, we also believe the Bible, as well as all great Spiritual writings or guides, must be read taking into consideration the time of the writing, the traditions practiced at that time, and the fact that we have the right to question and examine all interpretations. Enlightenment and revelation are continuous and did not stop with the Bible writers.
- : We believe that the visible church is the visible expression of Christ within the world. The church exists for the purpose of building up believers in Christ, through corporate worship, discipleship, fellowship, and service. It is empowered to do so by the Holy Spirit and the gifts given to the members to perform the work of the ministry and to edify the Body of Christ. We further believe that the Bible reveals the offices of the Church to be that of Bishops, Elders, Pastors, Reverends, Ministers and Deacons.
- : We believe that Baptism and the Lord's Supper are actions, which symbolize important truths and are to be observed out of obedience to the command of Jesus Christ. While they are not essential to salvation, they are essential to discipleship and obedience. We believe that through baptism, one expresses one's identity through and identification with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Also through baptism, there is the expression of hope for the future. One is baptized as a result of one's personal profession of faith in Jesus Christ.
